TWENTY-TWO MAKES UP THIRTEEN

I

On the eve of  your natal day as the 8^th month is about to strike, a fascinating romance is about to begin,

First notice when we met in a shrine is our passion to sing and serve the Lord is what we’re both akin;

A couple of years short to two dozen yields a decade plus three extraordinary years – grasp what I mean?

We’ve been partners for twenty-two years and today marks the thirteenth year since we tied the knot – that’s so keen!

 

 

II

Easy is an understatement, challenging does not define at all what a couple like us have been and seen,

We’ve seen joy, sorrow, glory and light – yet through it all we stand together contestin’ every odd we’ve been;

Marriage is not a one-way relationship – that I’ve learned the hard way, we cannot pretend all is pristine,

But admit our shortcomings, do better and strive to be the best version of ourselves to once more sheen.

 

 

III

It took us a while to tie the knot, not ‘coz we’re not ready but for reasons umpteen,

We we’re preparing ourselves to see the rest of the world for things uncommonly foreseen;

So that in the end, we might find each other’s purpose in life together and discover what they mean,

And of course we did and still is exploring life’s vast richness and blessings beseem.

 

  

IV

On the day of our wedding, the Heavens was crying with a grin,

Perhaps a gush of approval or a shower of blessings glean,

Undeniably our union has its favor from the One above, the ultimate “Love Dean”;

For the universe has intertwined our hearts, souls and whole being  clean.

 

 V

Thirteen years ago, when we got hitched, I swore to make you my queen,

Everything that I do is for you and for the future family we’ll bring in;

After a heart-breaking loss, we’re once again entrusted, our precious one came in,

She became the center of our world, Arianna freed our ultimate joy from within.

 

 

VI

Eleven years have passed and our precious one is now a tween,

Then we found a new reason to pour out our passion beyond the terrene;

For the Earthly is passing and mainly on the surface that’s shallow as seen,

What’s more essential is beyond what the naked eye can see, the mundane and divine chime in.

 

 

VII

Life is challenging as it is, being with you made me realize things beyond what ‘s plainly seen,

With you every bit becomes extraordinary, simply ‘coz we’re like coffee and milk, we blend in;

Two people, one heart - two souls, one being - you and I are plugged-in,

We’re inseparable, you and I - to have and to hold, together for eternity we’re bindin’.

 

 

VIII

The first couple of years into marriage was not a walk in the park, we were tested, we’ve been,

The heart-breaking loss of a supposedly first born, we had a hard time to take that in;

Soon after, indeed the Lord is faithful in His word, for He blessed us with a progeny that He breathed in,

We named her Arianna Revekah, “a very holy maiden”, for she is extraordinarily unique we ween.

 

 

IX

A couple of years have passed, everything seemed perfect, another blessing was consummated in,

But to our dismay, only the Lord knows what’s best for us, it simply wasn’t destine(d);

We agreed to focus on our precious one, to love and nurture her to her fullest potential is what we mean,

Never comparing her to others, seeing and honing her strengths is what we’re focusin’.

 

 

X

We had a taste of challenges, trials and deceits, no couple is perfect nor always serene,

We even had a share of loss and defeats - but in all occasions, we never succumbed to fightin’;

We deeply care for each other’s welfare - our love and respect is continuously evolvin’,

What’s important is we never fail to understand each other, we’re always growin’ and learnin’.

 

XI

Half  a decade passed, had an opportunity to work abroad, to somehow tend to greener pasture came in,

For the first time I was miles apart from my girls, and the longing I just can’t anymore bear to imagine;

Learned tons of things, had a lot of realizations but the lessons was all worth it in the end,

Had to go home to grieve with a loss. Anyways, opportunities can be found anywhere where love is nestled in.

 

 

XII

Today marks our twenty-second years of being together,  our thirteenth wedding anniversary comes in,

Lookin’ forward to see the world through the same eyes, feel each other’s love with our hearts beat in;

May God continually bless us and guide us in all our efforts to stay true to our vows ‘til the end,

And promise to nurture and love each other unconditionally and most especially our precious kin.

 

 

 

XIII

Thirteen may not seem to be a lucky number for most, but who cares, our faith in God will stand in,

Sure there will be more challenges ahead and difficulties to overcome, let all the storm in;

One thing I’m pretty sure, we’ll be together holding hands, singing our praises to Him ‘til the end,

Let us praise and honor God, for more years to come, ‘coz  TWENTY-TWO MAKES UP THIRTEEN!
